Club Awards

Reivers Awards 2024

Each year the club celebrates those who embody the Reivers spirit the most. Nominations are invited from across the club with every member able to vote.

Road Captain of the Year

This Cup is awarded to the Ride Leader who, in the opinion of the Club Members, has contributed most to ensuring that well led Club Rides take place on a regular period. The winner will have shown an outstanding empathy for other riders, guiding them diligently and safely throughout the Year.

2024: Nigel "The Wasp" Dickinson

The Club relies heavily on its Ride Leaders - they do the heavy lifting that ensures that members have a great selection of rides to participate in. Nigel stepped into the breach at a time when the Club was wanting.

Although new to the role, he has done a fantastic job this year, organising & leading unofficial social rides throughout the year, whatever the weather. An excellent ride leader, always riding with the rear group & ensuring that no rider is ever dropped. Café stops are well planned to ensure that everything runs smoothly for everyone.

He is constantly seeking out new roads & creating different & exciting routes. His rides are very well supported because he works hard to ensure that they’re well organised, suitable & really enjoyable for everyone taking part. He is a calm & highly respected ride leader & those who ride with him can’t praise him enough.

Outstanding Achievement

This Cup is awarded to the Reiver who has demonstrated the highest level of determination and greatest achievement throughout the year. The winner will have shown true Reiver Spirit by riding further, higher whilst still maintaining a sense of humour.

2024: Andy Campbell

After some time off the bike, Andy came back into cycling with a vengeance. Always prepared to push himself to the limits for a good cause, or to take on a personal challenge, this year he excelled himself by completing his ‘Big Ride Around the Lake District’ charity challenge: 200 miles, 18,000 feet, 17 lakes & 2 wheels … and all in one go! Riding from 6am to 10:30pm, the first 8 hours in the rain, to raise money for North Cumbria Search and Rescue. Almost £2,500 was raised for the charity; a valiant effort & an incredible achievement.

He also took part in the Great Dun Fell Hill Climb/Time Trial again this year, another gruelling & extremely challenging event.

Reiver of the Year

This Shield is awarded to the Club Member who has demonstrated throughout the year a selfless commitment to ensure that the Club's interests and reputation are maintained to the highest standard. The winner of this award, will be considered by their peers, to have given the most time and energy to the Club.

2024 : Barry Drinkwater

Barry is known as the creator of the Club app and he has spent untold hours making improvements and updates that have made organising, running & attending rides so much easier for everyone.

Additionally, he supports both official & unofficial club rides as well as regularly representing the Reivers at external events such as Time Trials, Sportives, Challenges & volunteering as a marshal at cycling events.

As an active member of the Club's Facebook group, he regularly keeps members updated about local cycling related events. He is now going into his fourth year on the committee as the Club moves forward.

Always positive & always determined, he loves his cycling & his Club & embodies the spirit of the Reivers.

Special
Award

This year, the Club Committee opted to present an additional 'special award' to the outgoing Club Secretary who was standing down after seven years of service on the committee.

Iain Atkinson

Iain has been an invaluable member of the Club’s committee, serving as the Club Secretary since the Club’s inception seven years ago. His contributions behind the scenes have been nothing short of exceptional. Iain’s diligent work in handling the Club’s administrative tasks, including overseeing club membership & applications, managing external inquiries and maintaining affiliations with organisations such as Cycling Time Trials and British Cycling, has been crucial in keeping the club running smoothly. His dedication and efficiency have ensured that all necessary administrative duties are expertly managed, allowing the club to thrive.

Thank you Iain. You will be greatly missed on the committee but we look forward to seeing you out on your bike!
